The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application window closes on March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible.
Admissions Process
Prospective students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. Applicants need to submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. The notification stated referees’ comments will focus on these areas.
Eligibility and Requirements
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from national-level Indian entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.
International examination scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). English proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Criteria
IIT Delhi will grant admission based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
