IIT Delhi is accepting applications from foreign nationals for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m. International students can apply online at international.iitd.ac.in .
Eligibility Criteria
Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must provide a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Referees will evaluate candidates on their aptitude. They will also assess proficiency in the chosen field. Research potential and independent thinking are key evaluation points. English oral and written proficiency is also assessed.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scores are also considered.
International examination scores are accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Admission is based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
