Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27.
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Interested students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in .
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement of English proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide recommendation letters.
The notification states referees will comment on a candidate’s overall aptitude. They will also assess proficiency in the chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking are key areas. Referee comments will also cover oral and written English skills.
Depending on the program, applicants may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), CSIR, UGC NET, or DST INSPIRE. International exams like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be required.
English language proficiency test scores are also mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may be considered.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will admit students based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. These interviews will be conducted by a faculty committee within the relevant discipline.
