IIT Delhi is now accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply.
Applications are being accepted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in . The portal closes at 4 PM on March 30, 2026.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English communication skills, according to official notifications.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also require scores from national-level Indian examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program.
International examination scores are also considered. Applicants may submit scores from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Additionally, proof of English language proficiency is required. Accepted test scores include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission decisions will be based on an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. A committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct these interviews. The committee assesses the candidate’s potential for research and independent thinking.
