Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline for international students to apply is March 30, 2026 . Applications are accepted for the 2026-27 academic year.
Admission Details
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. The application portal is accessible at international.iitd.ac.in .
Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters. These referees will be contacted to comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Eligibility and Testing
Admission may require scores from national-level Indian entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. For PhD and PG programs at IIT Delhi, these scores can be a factor in eligibility.
International examination scores are also considered. Eligible tests include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. This process evaluates candidates’ suitability for advanced study and research.
