IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 PM. Prospective students can submit their applications via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal.
Admission Eligibility and Requirements
Foreign nationals are eligible. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. This requires a self-declaration and the submission of two recommendation letters from referees.
Referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills. This information is detailed in the official admissions notification.
Academic Qualifications and Assessments
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program.
International assessment scores are also considered. These include results from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will admit students based on their interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will receive an interview invitation. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
Successful candidates must also provide scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.
