IIT Delhi is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official website at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. Two referees will need to provide recommendation letters.
Referee Recommendations
Referees will assess candidates. They will comment on the applicant’s aptitude. They will also evaluate the candidate’s proficiency in their chosen field. Potential for research and independent thought will be reviewed. English language proficiency will also be assessed by referees.
Admission Requirements
IIT Delhi may require specific test scores for admission. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) is also an option.
International examination scores may also be needed. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). English language proficiency test scores are also required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. A committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the interview. The committee will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
