IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions for International Students – Apply by March 30

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27.

Eligibility and Application Process

Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Prospective students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

The application portal closes at 4 PM on March 30, 2026 . Applicants need to provide a statement on their English language proficiency. They must also submit the names of two referees who can provide recommendation letters.

Referees will be asked to evaluate candidates on their aptitude, field-specific knowledge, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. This information is detailed in the official admission notification.

Required Test Scores

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from national or international standardized tests. These include:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
  • University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
  • DST INSPIRE
  • Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
  • Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)

International students may also need to submit scores from English proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.

Admission Criteria

IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview panel will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
