The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Candidates must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to submit a self-declaration of their English language skills.
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide recommendation letters. The referees will comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Submission of scores from standardized tests may be required. This includes Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores like GRE and GMAT are also accepted.
Proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Applicants with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
