IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions for International Students 2026

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for international students to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are open for the 2026-27 academic year. Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Admissions Process

Interested candidates must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal will remain open until the application deadline.

Applicants need to submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English communication skills.

Eligibility and Requirements

Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These can include:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
  • University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
  • DST INSPIRE

International examination scores are also considered. These include:

  • Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
  • Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)

English language proficiency must be demonstrated through scores from tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Criteria

IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Applicants with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview committee will evaluate candidates’ suitability for advanced study and research.
