The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for international students seeking admission to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs for the 2026-27 academic year. The application portal closes on March 30, 2026, at 4 PM . Prospective students can apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in .
Admission Eligibility and Requirements
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They will also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Academic and Language Proficiency Tests
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from national-level Indian entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.
International students can also submit scores from recognized international tests. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Additionally, proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examinations.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant department. This interview is a critical component of the selection process.
