IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students 2026

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for international students pursuing PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .

Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Applications are accepted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .

Application Process and Requirements

Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. Referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.

Admission decisions will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with faculty members from their chosen discipline.

Proficiency in English must be demonstrated through scores from recognized tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. An official statement from IIT Delhi confirms these requirements.
