IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m. The application portal is accessible at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility
Foreign nationals are eligible. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency.
Application Requirements
Candidates must provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English language skills. The notification stated referees will assess candidates’ “overall aptitude, proficiency in chosen field, potential for research and independent thinking and proficiency in oral and written English.”
Required Test Scores
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from specific national and international examinations. These include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
Proficiency in English language tests is also mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
