Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The admission cycle is for foreign national students for the 2026-27 academic year . Applications are due by March 30, 2026 .
Admission Details
International students can apply for PhD and PG courses through the official IIT Delhi website: international.iitd.ac.in . The application portal closes at 4 PM on March 30, 2026 .
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. They also need to provide names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Recommendation Letters
Referees will be contacted to provide feedback. Comments will focus on the candidate’s aptitude. This includes their proficiency in the chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking are also assessed. English language proficiency, both oral and written, will be evaluated.
Required Scores and Tests
Submission of scores from standardized tests may be required. For PhD and PG programs, these can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The DST INSPIRE program is also recognized. International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.
English language proficiency tests are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be accepted.
Selection Process
Admission will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. This committee will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
