IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application portal remains open until March 30, 2026 , 4 PM IST. Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility
Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. All applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. This is typically done through a self-declaration. Candidates also need to provide details for two referees.
Referee Recommendations
Referees will be contacted to provide feedback on applicants. Comments will focus on the candidate’s aptitude. They will also assess proficiency in their chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking are key areas. English language skills, both oral and written, will also be evaluated.
Academic and Test Requirements
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from specific examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Other accepted tests are CSIR, UGC NET, or DST INSPIRE. For international applicants, scores from exams like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) can be submitted.
English language proficiency tests are also mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination. A valid score from any recognized English language test will be considered.
Selection Process
The final selection will be based on interview performance. IIT Delhi will invite candidates with strong academic records for an interview. This interview will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The interview assesses a candidate’s suitability for advanced studies and research.
Academic Year
Admissions are for the academic year 2026-27 . This applies to both PhD and PG programs. The application deadline is a firm cutoff. Late applications will not be considered.
