IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students 2026

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for international students to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are being accepted until March 30, 2026 , for the 2026-27 academic year. Prospective students can apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .

Eligibility and Application Requirements

The application window is open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Candidates must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Referees will be asked to assess candidates on their overall aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This information is detailed in the official admission notification.

Academic and Language Proficiency Scores

Eligibility for IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs may require scores from national or international standardized tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and the DST INSPIRE program.

International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted. Applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.

Admission Process

Admission to IIT Delhi’s programs will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. The interview assesses their suitability for the program.
