The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for international students to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are open until March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply.
Admission Process
Interested candidates must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . The application window closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026 . Applicants need to submit a statement declaring English proficiency and provide details for two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English skills.
Eligibility and Requirements
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International test scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered. Applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests, such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Criteria
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Applicants with strong academic records will be invited to an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant department. The interview assesses overall aptitude and suitability for the chosen program.
