IIT Delhi is accepting applications for PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students for the 2026-27 academic year. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested candidates can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must declare their English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will evaluate candidates on their aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language command.
Admission Requirements
To be considered for PhD and PG programs, international students may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE). International examinations like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted.
English proficiency test scores are required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. The specific requirements will be detailed on the official admissions website.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs will be based on an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. A committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the interview. The interview assesses candidates’ suitability for advanced study and research.
