IIT Delhi opened admissions for international students to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Indian Standard Time (IST). Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) status, are eligible.
Admission Process
Applications must be submitted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in. Applicants need to provide a statement of English proficiency. They must also name two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates on aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This information is stated in the official admission notification.
Eligibility and Requirements
Candidates may need to submit scores from national eligibility tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Department of Science and Technology (DST) Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) program.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Selection Criteria
Admission will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. A committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the interviews.
