Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. This admission cycle is open to foreign national students for the academic year 2026-27. Applications must be submitted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website,international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Details and Deadline
The application portal for foreign nationals closes on March 30, 2026, at 4:00 PM . Candidates are advised to submit their applications well before the deadline.
Eligibility Criteria
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. Applicants also need to provide details of two referees. These referees will submit recommendation letters.
The referees’ recommendations will assess the candidate’s aptitude. They will also comment on proficiency in the chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking are key factors. English oral and written proficiency will also be evaluated.
Required Examinations and Scores
While the primary admission is based on interviews, certain test scores may be required. These include scores from Indian national tests like Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
International examination scores are also considered. Candidates may submit scores from Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other equivalent tests may also be accepted.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will admit students based on their performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. This process aims to evaluate candidates’ suitability for advanced academic pursuits.
