IIT Delhi has opened admissions for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students for the 2026-27 academic year . Applications are due by March 30, 2026, at 4 PM .
Eligibility and Application
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. The application portal is accessible at international.iitd.ac.in .
Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters. These referees will be contacted to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Academic Requirements
Admission requirements include scores from standardized tests. These may include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program for PhD and PG courses.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
