The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 PM . Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters.
These referees will be asked to evaluate candidates on their aptitude, proficiency in their chosen field, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language abilities, according to official notifications.
Academic and Language Proficiency Scores
To be eligible for PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from national or international standardized tests. These can include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program.
International examination scores such as the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency through tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Those with strong academic records will be invited to an interview panel. The panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
