Eligibility and Application Requirements

Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, are eligible to apply. Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to list two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Referees will assess candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. Official notifications state that these assessments are crucial for the selection process.

Academic and Entrance Exam Scores

To be considered for PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from national-level Indian entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.

International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Candidates should verify specific program requirements for accepted tests.

English Proficiency Tests

Proficiency in English is a mandatory requirement. Applicants must submit scores from standardized English language tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be considered.

Selection Process

Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs for international students will be based on an interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview conducted by a faculty committee from the relevant discipline.

The interview panel will evaluate candidates’ suitability for advanced study and research. This step is a primary component of the final selection procedure.
