IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students 2026

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .

Admissions Overview

Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) status, can apply. Applications are for the academic year 2026-27. Interested students should visit the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in to apply.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a statement of English language proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.

Depending on the program, candidates may need to submit scores from national or international standardized tests. These include:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
  • University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
  • DST INSPIRE
  • Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
  • Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)

Proficiency in English may also be assessed through tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

Admission is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee in their chosen discipline.
