IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website, international.iitd.ac.in.

Eligibility and Application Requirements

Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. They will need to provide a self-declaration of their English skills.

The application process requires two letters of recommendation. Referees will be asked to evaluate a candidate’s aptitude, field-specific knowledge, research potential, independent thinking abilities, and oral and written English proficiency.

Admission Criteria

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also depend on scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and DST INSPIRE.

International examination scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Candidates must also submit scores from English proficiency tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with faculty members from their chosen discipline. The interview committee will assess their suitability for the program.
