IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in.

Admission Eligibility

Eligibility is open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency. They need to provide a self-declaration of their English skills. Applicants must also list two referees who can submit recommendation letters.

The recommendation letters will assess a candidate’s aptitude and proficiency. Referees will comment on a student’s chosen field. They will also evaluate research potential, independent thinking, and oral and written English skills. This information is according to an official notification from IIT Delhi.

Required Scores and Assessments

IIT Delhi may require scores from specific standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Other accepted scores are from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scores are also considered.

International examination scores are also relevant. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE). The Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) is another accepted assessment. Applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination.

Admission Process

Admission decisions will consider interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members. The committee will be from the relevant academic discipline.

The application window applies to admissions for the 2026-2027 academic year. Interested international students should ensure their applications are complete before the March 30, 2026 deadline.
