Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from foreign national students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application window closes on March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m. Prospective students can apply online at international.iitd.ac.in .
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This requires a self-declaration of English language skills.
Application Requirements
Candidates must submit the names of two referees. These referees will provide recommendation letters. Referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English skills. This information is detailed in the official notification.
Academic and Entrance Exam Scores
Admission may require scores from national entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores are also considered. Acceptable international tests include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be accepted.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The committee will evaluate candidates’ suitability for the program.
