IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions for Foreign Nationals Open

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline for foreign national students to apply is March 30, 2026 . Applications are being accepted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Eligibility and Application Process

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Applicants must submit a statement declaring English proficiency. They will also need to provide names of two referees for recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.

Academic and Language Requirements

Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from national entrance exams such as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores, including Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT), can also be submitted.

All applicants must provide scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. This requirement ensures candidates possess the necessary English skills for academic study.

Selection Criteria

IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance in an interview. Applicants with strong academic records will be invited to an interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. This interview process is designed to evaluate candidates beyond their academic scores.
