Eligibility and Application Requirements
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must declare their English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters. These referees will assess the applicant’s aptitude, field-specific skills, research potential, and English communication abilities, according to the official notification.
Academic and English Proficiency Scores
For admission, candidates may be required to submit scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program. International tests like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted.
Demonstrated English language proficiency is mandatory. Applicants must submit scores from tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination. Proof of proficiency is a key component of the application process.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance during an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview will evaluate their suitability for the PhD or PG program.

The application portal for international candidates will remain open until 4:00 PM on March 30, 2026 . Early application is advised to ensure all documents are submitted correctly before the deadline.
