Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Admissions for International Students
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27. Prospective students can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also require scores from standardized tests. These include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
International Examination Scores
IIT Delhi also accepts scores from international examinations. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Applicants must also demonstrate English language proficiency through tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination. Scores from any equivalent language test are also considered.
Selection Process
Admission decisions are based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. The committee will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
