IIT Delhi has opened admissions for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Postgraduate (PG) programs to international students for the academic year 2026-27 . Applications are accepted online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . The deadline for submission is March 30, 2026, by 4:00 PM .
Eligibility Criteria
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Referees will evaluate candidates on their overall aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English communication abilities, according to the official notification.
Admission Requirements
Candidates may need to submit scores from national entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) , Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) , University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) , or DST INSPIRE awards. International examination scores are also considered, such as the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) .
English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL , IELTS , TOEIC , OPI , OPIC , and the Cambridge English Examination , among others.
Selection Process
Admission will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. This process assesses their suitability for advanced study and research at IIT Delhi.
