Nearly 300 first-year MBA students at IIM Nagpur boycotted their mid-term examination on Tuesday. The students protested the debarment of 40 classmates from the exam. The debarred students were penalized for violating institute rules.
Protest Details
The incident began on the night of February 21. Seventy-five first and second-year students attended a farewell party for seniors. They returned to the campus hostel the next morning. These students were required to return by 10 pm. They also failed to inform their parents about their late return.
Debarment and Boycott
Institute officials stated that 40 first-year students who attended the party were debarred. This action prevented them from taking the mid-term exam scheduled for Tuesday. In response, approximately 300 first-year students staged a silent protest. They refused to sit for the exam. Some second-year students who also attended the party joined the protest. They feared similar consequences for their upcoming exams.
Resolution and Next Steps
The institute director was reportedly out of town during the incident. An official confirmed the issue has since been resolved. Second-year MBA students took their end-term exams on Wednesday. The mid-term examination for the 300 first-year students who boycotted the exam will be scheduled for a later date. The specific date has not yet been announced.
