IIM Mumbai MBA Admissions 2026: CAT 60% Weightage Maintained

IIM Mumbai has released its MBA admission policy for the 2026-28 batch, confirming a 60% weightage for Common Admission Test (CAT) scores. The institute will maintain the same shortlisting and final selection process as the previous year. Officials indicate that cut-offs for admission may increase due to a larger applicant pool.

Admission Factors

Admission to IIM Mumbai’s MBA program considers multiple factors. These include a candidate’s CAT 2025 performance , previous academic records, professional work experience, and personal interview (PI) scores.

Only candidates with CAT scores between 70 and 85 percentile will be considered for general admission. For reserved categories, including Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD), the CAT cut-off may be as low as 55 percentile .

Eligibility Criteria

The IIM Mumbai MBA is a two-year full-time residential program for graduates. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks or an equivalent CGPA. The minimum mark requirement is relaxed to 45% for SC, ST, and PwD categories, according to the institute.

Final-year undergraduate students are eligible to apply. Provisionally selected candidates must complete all degree requirements by June 30, 2026 . They are required to submit their final mark sheet and degree certificate by December 31, 2026 . Failure to meet this deadline will result in admission cancellation, the institute clarified.

Stage 1 Shortlisting Process

Candidates must qualify the CAT 2025 exam and meet both sectional and overall CAT cut-off percentiles to be considered for the next stage. Only applicants meeting these minimum percentile requirements will receive an invitation for a personal interview (PI).

IIM Mumbai states that the CAT 2025 sectional cut-off percentiles remain consistent with last year’s figures for all categories.

CAT 2025 Sectional and Overall Percentiles

Category VARC DILR QA Overall Percentile
General ≥80 ≥80 ≥75 ≥85
NC-OBC ≥70 ≥65 ≥65 ≥75
EWS ≥70 ≥65 ≥65 ≥75
SC ≥65 ≥60 ≥60 ≥70
ST ≥55 ≥55 ≥55 ≥65
PwD ≥45 ≥45 ≥45 ≥55

IIM Mumbai noted that actual section-wise and overall percentile cut-offs may exceed these minimums. The final cut-offs depend on the number of candidates called for personal interviews in each category.

Shortlisted candidates proceed to Stage 2. They will be called for a personal interview based on their CAT 2025 score, sectional cut-offs, and reservation category.

Final Selection Criteria

Final selection for MBA admission at IIM Mumbai relies on a composite score. This score combines CAT performance , personal interview evaluation, and an Academic Performance and Work Experience (APWE) score.

The APWE score carries a 20% weightage . It is calculated from aggregate marks obtained in Class 10, Class 12 (depending on the stream), a bachelor’s degree, and work experience as of December 31, 2025 . Candidates holding dual bachelor’s degrees are classified based on one specialized subject. They must submit details for both degrees.

Academic Rating Scores

Class 10 marks are normalized using a 0.7 multiplication factor. Stream-based Class 12 and bachelor’s degree rating scores also contribute to the academic evaluation. Specific details for these scores are provided in the IIM Mumbai MBA admission policy document.
