The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) recently inducted 20,000 new members, awarding Chartered Accountant (CA) membership certificates across 15 cities. A nationwide convocation ceremony marked the formal entry of these professionals into the accounting field, signifying the start of their careers.
Nationwide Induction Event
The ICAI organized this simultaneous event across various cities. Locations included New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jaipur, and Chandigarh. Five other cities also hosted ceremonies, formalizing the induction of newly qualified CAs into the profession.
The main convocation was inaugurated from New Delhi. Vivek Bharadwaj, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Panchayat Raj, served as the chief guest. He was joined by ICAI President Charanjot Singh Nanda, Vice-President Prasanna Kumar D, and Secretary Jai Kumar Batra. Several ICAI council members also attended the ceremony.
Emphasis on Ethics and Public Service
During his address, Vivek Bharadwaj highlighted ICAI’s significant role in strengthening the accounting profession. He cited its contributions through education, mentorship, and grassroots capacity-building. This includes training accountants at the Panchayat level across India.
Bharadwaj stressed that professional success must align with ethical conduct. He also emphasized the importance of continuous learning and dedicated service to society for all new members.
ICAI President Charanjot Singh Nanda congratulated the new CAs. He administered an oath, defining ICAI membership as a commitment to independence, integrity, and professional excellence. Nanda underlined the increasing relevance of Chartered Accountants in public finance, Panchayati Raj institutions, and national governance reforms.
Vice-President Prasanna Kumar D reiterated the core value of ethics. He stated that integrity remains the foundation of the profession. Kumar D noted that Indian Chartered Accountants are globally respected for their competence, adaptability, and trustworthiness in financial matters.
