SHIMLA – Himachal Pradesh will expand robotic surgical facilities to all medical colleges by early 2026. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the initiative on Wednesday. This move aims to enhance advanced medical care across the state’s public health sector.
Robotic surgery operations have already begun at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialities (AIMSS) Chamiana. Tanda Medical College also started robotic surgery services. These launches mark a first for state public health facilities. Chief Minister Sukhu stated these steps align with a broader strategy. This strategy seeks to position Himachal Pradesh as a medical excellence hub for its citizens.
Key Healthcare Investments Announced
The government approved Rs 5 crore for each of five premier medical institutions. This significant funding will establish dedicated bone marrow transplant facilities. The institutions include Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla. Tanda Medical College, Hamirpur Medical College, and Ner Chowk Medical College are also beneficiaries. AIMSS Chamiana completes the list. These new facilities will offer crucial specialized care within the state.
An additional Rs 75 crore budget received approval for AI-equipped smart labs. These cutting-edge labs will be set up at IGMC Shimla and Tanda Medical College. The smart labs aim to reduce diagnostic wait times. Automation of processes will improve efficiency for patients.
An Advanced Pediatric Centre is under development at AIMSS Chamiana. This specialized center will provide child healthcare services within Himachal Pradesh. This addresses specific medical needs for the younger generation.
Public Health and Accessibility Initiatives
Dedicated Outpatient Departments (OPDs) for senior citizens are now functional across major hospitals. These specialized consultation slots serve citizens aged 70 and above. The measure aims to eliminate long waiting queues for elderly patients. This improves healthcare access for vulnerable populations.
A comprehensive Pulse Polio campaign was successfully executed. The campaign began on December 21 . It featured intensive door-to-door mop-up operations. The campaign’s primary goal was to achieve 100 percent immunization coverage. This ensured the protection of all eligible children.
