The first phase of this educational reform includes opening 100 CBSE-based schools. These institutions form a key part of the ‘ Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools ‘ project. This project plans to establish schools in every assembly constituency. The aim is to bolster confidence and preparedness among students from Himachal’s rural communities.
CBSE affiliation introduces a nationally recognized curriculum. This standardization provides a uniform, high-quality learning environment. It also prepares students for competitive national examinations and higher education opportunities beyond the state.
Comprehensive Education Reforms Underway
Chief Minister Sukhu outlined a series of comprehensive reforms within the education sector. He confirmed that English-medium instruction began across all state schools last year. This change develops vital language skills for global competitiveness among students. Additionally, schools now have freedom to select smart uniform designs, fostering local identity and choice.
Addressing Past Educational Inefficiencies
The current state government has undertaken measures to rectify past educational shortcomings. Several schools established during the previous administration have been closed. Chief Minister Sukhu clarified these closures targeted institutions opened without adequate staff. They also had very low student enrollment, making them unsustainable and inefficient. He described their initial establishment as primarily for “political mileage” rather than genuine educational development.

Chief Minister Sukhu recently interacted with a delegation from the Himachal Pradesh Government Primary Teachers Association. The teachers submitted a memorandum detailing various demands. Sukhu acknowledged the critical role teachers play in achieving educational objectives. He assured the delegation that the government would review their concerns with careful consideration. The administration views teachers as crucial partners in implementing these statewide reforms.
