Haryana will soon launch ‘CM Shri Schools’ across the state. These schools will follow the national Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) pattern. State Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda announced the initiative on Wednesday. The announcement came during the ongoing budget session of the Haryana Assembly.
CM Shri Schools: A New Initiative
The ‘CM Shri Schools’ are modeled after the central government’s ‘PM Shri Schools’ scheme. The PM SHRI scheme launched in September 2022. It aims to upgrade selected schools into model institutions. These schools will implement all aspects of the National Education Policy-2020. The focus is on quality education and holistic student development. They will also promote 21st-century skills. These model schools will serve as mentors to nearby educational institutions.
Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections
The Education Department has also reserved seats for disadvantaged students. 25 percent of seats at entry-level classes in private schools are set aside. These seats are for students from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Disadvantaged Groups (DG). This policy aims to ensure equitable access to education.
Right to Education Act Admissions
The minister provided data on admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. In the last academic session, 14,127 applications were received for private school admissions. Of these, 11,803 students were successfully allotted seats in private schools. The RTE Act allows students from families with an annual income below Rs 1.80 lakh to apply.
The introduction of CM Shri Schools signals a commitment to improving educational standards in Haryana. The focus on NEP 2020 principles and EWS reservations highlights a move towards more inclusive and quality-focused learning environments.
