Gonda Medical College Inspected After Viral Rat Video

A team from the Uttar Pradesh Department of Medical Education inspected the medical college in Gonda district on Sunday . The inspection followed a viral video circulating online, which showed rats inside the hospital. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak directed the team’s visit.

Investigation Initiated After Viral Video

The inspection focused on cleanliness, patient facilities, and overall arrangements. Officials confirmed the team reviewed various wards within the medical college. Director (Medical Care) Sandeepa Srivastava led the team. Srivastava stated the state government directed them to visit and submit a comprehensive report on the incident.

The team carried out the inspection despite the Out-Patient Department (OPD) remaining closed on Sunday . They specifically examined the orthopaedics ward, among other areas. Information was gathered regarding existing arrangements in these sections.

The viral video, which surfaced days earlier, depicted rats moving freely. The footage specifically showed rats in the orthopaedics ward. They were observed running from an oxygen pipeline to patients’ beds. Following the video’s wide circulation, several opposition leaders raised concerns. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav was among those who questioned the medical college’s operational conditions.

Immediate Actions and Administrative Changes

The state government took serious note of the video. It immediately suspended all staff members from the concerned ward. District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan also conducted an inspection of the medical college. She issued directives to shift OPD services. The services are to be relocated to the newly constructed multi-storey building at the earliest opportunity.

Medical Superintendent D.N. Singh confirmed operational changes. Singh stated that almost all OPD services will begin operating from the new building starting January 19 . This move aims to improve patient care and facility management.

The college will also implement a “one patient, one attendant” system for admitted patients. This policy intends to manage patient flow and maintain order within the wards.

Specific visiting hours for patient attendants have been established. These hours are from 7 am to 8 am , 1 pm to 2 pm , and 4 pm to 6 pm . Outside these designated times, only one attendant will be permitted to stay with each patient. This measure aims to control overcrowding.

The college administration has also initiated strict actions against campus rule violations. Fines will be imposed on individuals found littering. Penalties also apply to those consuming tobacco or gutkha products on the premises.

Second Incident Under Scrutiny

Even as the initial probe into the rat incident progressed, another video appeared on social media. This second video allegedly originated from the same medical college. It showed three dogs sitting on a bed next to a patient.

The exact time and specific ward of this alleged incident could not be confirmed. Chief Medical Superintendent Anil Tiwari stated that the matter of dogs sitting on beds was not within his knowledge.

Director (Medical Care) Sandeepa Srivastava confirmed that the facts uncovered during the inspection are currently being compiled. A detailed report will be submitted to the government soon.
