GIM Boosts Online Courses, Emphasizes AI Literacy

The Goa Institute of Management (GIM) plans a significant expansion of its online courses. Director Professor Ajit Parulekar stated that AI literacy is now a crucial expectation from recruiters. GIM aims to integrate emerging areas like agriculture and agri-tech into its curriculum, addressing climate change and sustainability challenges.

GIM’s Three-Decade Growth

Over 30 years, GIM has grown steadily. The institute now has 93 full-time faculty members. In the past five years, they published 109 papers in top-tier journals (ABDC A* & A). GIM secured over Rs 7 crore in sponsored research funding from organizations like WHO and Harvard Chan School of Public Health.

GIM pioneered specialized programs. These include the PGDM in Health Care Management and the PGDM in Big Data Analytics. The institute’s alumni network includes over 77 CXOs.

Evolution of Management Education

Management education has evolved with technology. This includes AI, data science, blockchain, and digital business. Core human skills, such as critical thinking, empathy, and ethical judgment, remain important. India leads Asia in the growth and innovation of management education.

New Focus Areas: Agriculture and Agri-Tech

Professor Parulekar highlighted the need for management education to expand into agriculture and agri-tech. These sectors offer opportunities for innovation and growth. Integrating them into curricula prepares leaders for global challenges like food security and environmental resilience.

AI Impact on Placements

AI has begun reshaping placement trends. Recruiters now universally expect proficiency in AI and related tools. AI literacy is a key differentiator for management graduates.

GIM Placement Report

GIM’s placement season began positively. The PGDM, Big Data Analytics (BDA), and Health Care Management (HCM) programs secured higher offers than the previous year. Pre-placement offers also increased. While the technology sector shows a slowdown, consulting, BFSI, and healthcare sectors perform well.

GIM’s AI Advantage

GIM holds a competitive advantage in AI. The institute launched its Big Data Analytics program in 2018 . This established in-house expertise in data-driven decision-making. This foundation positioned GIM for the evolution towards AI and machine learning. Faculty capability and industry connections support AI integration into teaching and research.

National Education Policy (NEP) Implementation

GIM implemented the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). It also added multidisciplinarity to its four PGDM programs. This was done through global electives available to students.

International Expansion

GIM has expanded its international footprint. The Global Immersion Program now includes partnerships with eight international institutes . These are in the UK, France, USA, Greece, Poland, Thailand, and Morocco. Student capacity increased four-fold, from 40 to 160 participants .

Success of Hybrid Learning

GIM’s hybrid program, predominantly online with on-campus modules, shows positive results. Enrollments increased seven-fold, making it a national program with international participants. The program received a QS ranking of Top 7 Executive MBA in India for 2025. It ranked 30th in the Asia Pacific region. In the QS World Online MBA Rankings 2026, it secured the No. 1 position globally in ‘Class Experience’.

Adult Vaccination Project

GIM leads a national project on adult vaccination uptake in India. Supported by WHO, professors Ajay Vamadevan and Praveen Pradeep head this two-year initiative. The project strengthens evidence and policy for adult immunization. It examines existing policies and barriers. Focus states include Goa, Kerala, Delhi, and Punjab, which have a high burden of chronic diseases.

Future Infrastructure Development

GIM continues its expansion strategy. The institute recently completed a new office block. Construction is ongoing for a state-of-the-art online education facility. This new facility will enhance digital and hybrid learning capabilities. It will serve a wider learner base while maintaining academic standards.
