GATE 2026 Exam Starts Feb 7: IIT Guwahati Conducts MTech Tests

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 begins tomorrow, February 7. IIT Guwahati is conducting the exam in computer-based test (CBT) mode. The examination will run for four days, concluding on February 15.

Exam Schedule and Timings

The GATE 2026 exam will be held in two shifts daily. The morning shift runs from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. The afternoon shift is scheduled from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The exam covers 30 different test papers.

Admit Card Information

Candidates can download their GATE 2026 admit cards from the official website, gate2026.iitg.ac.in. The admit card was released on January 13. Access requires an enrollment number and password.

Exam Details

The GATE entrance exam has a duration of 3 hours. Each paper includes 30 questions in English. The total marks for the GATE question paper are 100. General aptitude (GA) accounts for 15 marks, common to all papers. The remaining 85 marks are based on the specific test paper syllabus.

Purpose of GATE Exam

The GATE exam is used for admission to Master of Technology (MTech) and PhD programs. Participating institutions include IITs, NITs, IIITs, and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore. Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) also use GATE scores for recruitment.

Exam Day Requirements

Candidates must arrive at their allotted exam centers before the reporting time. This allows for ID checks and security screening. All exam-day guidelines issued by IIT Guwahati must be followed.

Items to Carry

• Printed copy of the GATE 2026 admit card.
• A valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving licence, passport).
• Disability certificate, if applicable.

Electronic devices, calculators, smartwatches, and manuscripts are prohibited inside the examination hall.
