Faridabad Teen Dies by Suicide, JEE Exam Stress Cited

A 17-year-old girl died by suicide in Faridabad, Haryana, on Wednesday evening. Police reported the incident occurred in Sector 88, Greater Faridabad, where she jumped from the 10th floor of the Ador Society residential building. Investigators are focusing on stress from competitive exams as a primary factor.

The deceased was preparing for the JEE Main 2026 . Preliminary police investigations indicate she had been suffering from depression for some time. No suicide note was recovered from the scene.

Incident Details

The girl lived with her family on the third floor of the same society. Her father works for a private company and is based in Kolkata. On Wednesday evening, her mother and younger brother were not home. The girl reportedly took the elevator from the third floor to the tenth floor before jumping.

A security guard at the society’s gate heard the fall. He rushed to the spot and found the girl lying on the ground. The guard immediately informed the family. They transported her to a private hospital, where medical staff declared her dead upon arrival.

Investigation Findings

During the investigation, police found the girl had achieved 95 percent marks in her 12th-grade board exams last year. She later attempted the JEE Main examination but did not qualify. This outcome caused her significant stress, according to police. Her parents subsequently sought medical treatment for her depression at a Delhi hospital.

A senior police officer confirmed the student had been undergoing treatment for depression. The officer stated she felt stressed about not clearing previous JEE examinations and was preparing for the exam again. Following a post-mortem examination, authorities handed the body over to her family.
