The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment offers the Post Matric Scholarship for Students With Disabilities. This scheme provides financial assistance to students with eligible disabilities pursuing post-matriculation education across India. The scholarship aims to help students overcome financial barriers, continue their studies, and secure employment for independent living.
The program supports students with specific disabilities listed under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 . These include visual, hearing, and locomotor disabilities. The scheme provides funds for monthly maintenance, a book allowance, and additional disability-specific allowances.
Eligibility Requirements
Students must meet specific criteria to qualify for this scholarship:
- Applicants must pursue a post-matric qualification in India. This includes Class 11th, Class 12th, Polytechnics, Post-Matriculation Diploma/Certificates, and Bachelor’s/Master’s Degrees/Diplomas.
- Students must have a disability percentage of 40% or above .
- The total annual income of the student’s parents or guardians must not exceed INR 2.50 lakh .
- The scholarship does not apply to more than two students from the same family. Twin siblings are an exception.
- Applicants must not currently receive any other scholarship from the government.
Providing false information or documents will lead to recovery of the amount spent, plus 15% compound interest. The applicant will also face blacklisting and legal action. Students who repeat a class will not receive scholarship funds for that repeated year.
Scholarship Benefits
The scholarship provides financial support in several categories:
Book Allowance: Students receive INR 1500 per annum for books.
Monthly Maintenance Allowance: This allowance varies by course group and student status (hosteller or day scholar).

Application Process
Students apply for the scholarship online. Follow these steps:
- Visit the official National Scholarship Portal website:scholarships.gov.in.
- Click on “New Registration” .
- Read the registration guidelines and accept the terms.
- Click “Continue” .
- Fill the registration form completely and click “Register” .
- Click “Login to Apply” .
- Enter your Application ID and password received on your registered mobile number.
- Type the Captcha code and click “Login” .
- Enter the One-Time Password (OTP) received.
- Create a new password and click “Submit” .
- On the “Applicant’s Dashboard” , click “Application Form” .
- Fill in all required details and upload necessary documents.
- Choose to “Save as Draft” to finish later or “Final Submit” to complete the application.
