Delhi University Launches AI in Health Sciences Certificate

The University of Delhi (DU) has launched a new online certificate course focused on artificial intelligence (AI) in health sciences. The program, titled “Application of Artificial Intelligence in Health Sciences,” aims to equip participants with AI knowledge for the healthcare sector.

Course Details

The course will run for 15 weeks. Classes are scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays, with two hours of instruction each day. A total of 50 seats are available per batch.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree. Accepted fields include computer science, IT, engineering, mathematics, and statistics. Degrees in life sciences and healthcare disciplines are also eligible. These include MBBS, nursing, and pharmacy qualifications.

Program Launch and Objectives

University of Delhi Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh formally launched the certificate course on February 4. The program operates under DU’s Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Council. The course intends to provide a foundation in AI applications for health sciences. It also emphasizes ethical understanding, interdisciplinary learning, and real-world medical applications.

Vice-Chancellor’s Statement

Vice-Chancellor Singh stated that the future demands healthcare professionals with strong technological skills. He believes such courses are vital for student preparation. Singh suggested incorporating in-person weekend classes alongside online learning. He also commented on AI’s impact, noting it may replace some jobs but will create new opportunities. Humans, he added, cannot be fully replaced by machines.
