The Delhi government is modernizing 75 CM SHRI schools. These schools will incorporate artificial intelligence (AI), smart classrooms, and green campus features. The upgrades aim to create future-ready institutions that meet global education standards.
School Modernization Plans
The schools will become specialized institutions. This aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023. The focus will be on skill-based and competency-driven education. This prepares students for emerging global job markets.
Futuristic Learning Environment
CM SHRI schools will feature AI-powered personalized learning hubs. Digital integration and experiential teaching methods will be used. The government will also introduce a flexible assessment system. This system aims to reduce exam stress for students.
Campus Technology and Sustainability
Campuses will include smart classrooms. These will have augmented and virtual reality tools. AI-enabled libraries and robotics labs are also planned. Biometric attendance systems will be implemented. The schools will also be designed as green campuses. They will utilize solar energy and implement zero-waste practices.
Admissions and Eligibility
These institutions will offer classes from the nursery level or Class 6. Admissions for Class 6 and above will require an aptitude test. This test identifies talented students. Half of the available seats will be reserved for students from government and government-aided schools. This includes students from the Directorate of Education (DoE), MCD, NDMC, Kendriya Vidyalayas, and Navodaya Vidyalayas.
Students from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC, non-creamy layer), and children with special needs will receive a five percent relaxation. This applies to eligibility criteria. The Lieutenant Governor previously notified these schools. They are designated as “specified category” institutions under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.
Affiliation and Approval
The proposal received approval from the Delhi Cabinet in May. It was then sent to the Lieutenant Governor. The Delhi Board of School Education is being phased out. These new schools will be affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
