Delhi Launches ‘Opportunity Handbook’ for AI Innovation in Schools

The Delhi government will launch an ‘Opportunity Handbook’ in its schools to encourage artificial intelligence (AI) innovation among students aged 15-18. The initiative aims to equip approximately 5 lakh students across 11 districts with problem-solving skills by developing AI prototypes for real-world issues.

An official stated the handbook moves beyond traditional learning, focusing on practical challenges in critical areas. These areas include pollution, climate change, urban logistics, and smart mobility. Space is also under consideration as a focus sector, based on expert input from Indian Air Force test pilot Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla.

Program Rollout and Access

The Opportunity Handbook will become available digitally on the AI Grind website. Students can register there to participate. The program allows students to select sectors of interest and work on identified problems within those areas. Participants will then develop AI-powered prototypes to address these challenges.

The initiative will roll out over the next six months . It is backed by over 200 partners from various industries. This industry and community-powered approach aims to integrate learning with real-life applications, preparing students for an AI-driven future.

Key Objectives and Targets

The program targets students across all 11 districts of the national capital. Its objectives include developing a new generation of innovators and preparing students for future careers in emerging technological fields. The handbook intends to transform classrooms into innovation hubs, fostering creative thinking and collaborative work.

Specific targets for the program include:

  • Working across 10 sectors of national relevance.
  • Developing nearly 1,000 prototypes .
  • Shortlisting 100 finalists .
  • Grooming 50 AI ambassadors from participating students.

AI Grind Initiative

The Opportunity Handbook is part of the larger ‘AI Grind’ movement. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the AI Grind initiative on December 7 . This broader movement aims to promote artificial intelligence education and skills at the school level across the city.

Students will work on issues directly relevant to India, such as pollution control, smart mobility solutions, and the future of education in an AI-integrated world.
