DDU-GKY: Skill Training, Jobs for Rural Youth (15-45)

The Ministry of Rural Development operates the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY). This program provides skill training and job placement for poor rural youth. It aims to secure beneficiaries long-term employment with wages at or above the minimum wage. DDU-GKY tracks participants post-placement to ensure job retention and career advancement.

The DDU-GKY program focuses on several key areas designed to ensure participant success. It delivers industry-relevant training in high-demand sectors. These include agriculture, construction, retail, and hospitality. This training equips beneficiaries with practical skills for immediate employment. The scheme also provides direct placement assistance. It connects trained individuals with potential employers and offers comprehensive job search support. This includes resume writing workshops and interview preparation sessions. Post-placement support further aids beneficiaries. It helps them adjust to new work environments through mentorship, counseling, and access to resources. DDU-GKY also supports long-term career progression. It offers opportunities for further training, mentorship, and professional networking. To maximize participant outcomes, the program provides incentives to Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs). These incentives encourage PIAs to place beneficiaries in higher-paying jobs that align with their developed skills and experience.
