CBSE Class 12: Digital Screen Marking from 2026

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will implement digital screen marking for Class 12 board exams starting in 2026. This change affects the evaluation of answer scripts, moving from physical to digital methods. Class 10 evaluations will continue using traditional paper-based marking.

Digital Screen Marking System

The new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system aims to increase efficiency and transparency in the evaluation process. This digital approach will be applied to Class 12 answer books from the 2026 examination cycle onwards.

Benefits of On-Screen Marking

CBSE has outlined several advantages to adopting OSM:

  • Eliminates totaling errors.
  • Automates coordination, reducing manual work.
  • Speeds up evaluation by allowing wider teacher participation.
  • Enables teachers to mark from their schools, maintaining regular duties.
  • Saves time and costs associated with transportation.
  • Removes the need for post-result verification of marks.
  • Reduces manpower required for verification.
  • Allows all affiliated schools to contribute to the evaluation process.
  • Involves teachers from CBSE-affiliated schools globally.
  • Promotes environmentally sustainable digital evaluation.

School Readiness Requirements

Affiliated schools must ensure their computer labs are prepared for the OSM system. Key requirements include:

  • A computer lab with a Public Static IP.
  • PCs or laptops with Windows 8 or higher, 4GB RAM, and 1GB free space on the C: drive.
  • The latest internet browser installed.
  • Adobe Reader installed.
  • Reliable internet connectivity of at least 2 Mbps.
  • An uninterrupted power supply.

Implementation Support

To ensure a smooth transition, CBSE will provide support for teachers. This includes allowing teachers with OASIS IDs to log in and practice with the system. Training programs will be organized, and a call center will be established for issue resolution. Instructional videos will also be released to aid understanding.

Detailed instructions for each activity will be communicated separately to all stakeholders.
