Examination Shifts and Timings

BSEB will conduct both Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations in dual shifts. This arrangement accommodates the large number of students appearing for the exams. Strict adherence to timings is mandatory for all candidates.

Morning Shift Details

  • Timing: 9:30 AM to 12:35 PM
  • Duration: 3 hours 5 minutes (including cool-off time)
  • Cool-Off Time (Class 10): 9:30 AM to 9:45 AM

Students must report to their examination centers well before the morning shift begins. The cool-off period allows students to read the question paper.

Afternoon Shift Details

  • Timing: 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM
  • Duration: 3 hours 15 minutes (including cool-off time)
  • Cool-Off Time (Class 12): 2:00 PM to 2:15 PM

The afternoon shift provides a similar structure for exam conduct. Class 12 students receive their cool-off time at the start of this shift. Students should use this time to review the paper without writing answers.

Understanding Cool-Off Time

The Bihar board allocates 15 minutes as ‘cool-off time’ during each examination. This time is for students to read and understand the question paper. Students are not permitted to write any answers or make markings during this 15-minute period. It is a crucial period for planning responses.

For Class 10 examinations in the morning shift, the cool-off time is from 9:30 AM to 9:45 AM . For Class 12 examinations in the afternoon shift, the cool-off time is from 2:00 PM to 2:15 PM . This dedicated time aims to reduce exam stress and improve comprehension.

Important Instructions for Students

All annual board exams will run for a total of three hours of writing time, excluding the cool-off period. Students must carry their admit cards and adhere to all examination guidelines. BSEB advises students to regularly check the official board website for detailed subject-wise schedules and any further updates or instructions regarding the 2026 board examinations. Planning study schedules according to the released timetable is recommended.
