Bihar Education Minister Sunil Kumar announced Thursday that the department will investigate the reported suicide of a Class 10 student. The girl died by suicide in Patna’s Masaurhi area on Tuesday. This followed her alleged denial of entry to an examination hall. She reportedly arrived 10 minutes late for her exam.
Government Action Promised
Minister Sunil Kumar stated outside the assembly, “As I go to my office from here, I will definitely take cognisance of this case.” He made the statement following inquiries about the incident.
When asked about leniency for minor delays in exam entry, Kumar responded that the government would take “whatever appropriate action is required in the interest of students.” Specific measures were not detailed.
Opposition Raises Concerns
Former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi had previously demanded strict action. Speaking during a protest outside the Bihar Legislative Council on Thursday, she highlighted the incident. Devi stated, “The law and order is in a dismal state.”
She further alleged, “When a daughter reached the exam hall only slightly late, she was not allowed to take the exam. As a result, she died by suicide by jumping off a train.” The opposition leader asserted the girl should have been permitted to take the exam.
CPI(ML) Liberation MLC Shashi Yadav also raised the issue. He brought the incident to light inside the Legislative Council during the question hour on Thursday.
