AYUSH Ministry: 45% Posts Vacant Across 19 Institutes

The Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy (AYUSH) reported 2,512 vacant posts across 19 of its institutions. This represents 45.2% of the total 5,553 sanctioned positions. The Ministry presented this data in the Lok Sabha.

Only 3,041 of the sanctioned posts are currently filled within the AYUSH system. The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) in New Delhi alone accounts for over 900 of these vacancies, showing the highest single institute shortage.

Institutes with Highest Vacancies

The data highlights specific institutions facing significant staff shortages. The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) in New Delhi has the highest number of unfilled positions, with 903 out of 1,708 sanctioned posts vacant. This means nearly 53% of its posts are empty.

The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) in New Delhi shows an even higher percentage. It has 38 vacant posts out of 40 sanctioned, resulting in a 95% vacancy rate. Only two positions are filled here.

Other institutions also report substantial gaps. The Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) in Jamnagar has 322 vacancies from 539 sanctioned posts, representing nearly 60% of its total. The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi has 193 vacant posts out of 377, a 51% shortfall.

The North Eastern Institute Ayurveda & Folk Medicine Research (NEIAFMR) in Pasighat faces a serious staff crunch. It has 76 vacant posts from 90 sanctioned, leaving only 14 positions filled. This is an 84% vacancy rate.

The Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) in New Delhi reports 345 vacant posts out of 766 sanctioned. The Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) , also in New Delhi, has 216 vacancies from its 452 sanctioned posts.

These widespread vacancies across teaching, research, and regulatory bodies within the AYUSH Ministry indicate significant challenges in staffing these vital institutions. The data provides a clear picture of the current human resource situation in India’s traditional medicine sector.
